During your hospital stay a specialist paediatrician will examine your baby. Many babies are born with 'newborn jaundice' which is usually perfectly harmless. Should your baby have jaundice measuring above normal levels for newborns, the paediatrician may decide to treat him or her with ultraviolet light therapy (phototherapy).
