You may have already become familiar with some aspects of the Obstetrics Unit during antenatal classes. During your stay in the unit, you will be shown how to feed and care for your baby, so you can return home feeling confident and in control.

Most medical aid schemes allow you to stay in hospital for two nights and three days after a natural delivery. If your baby was born by Caesarean section you will stay for three nights and four days. During this time you and your baby will be cared for in the Obstetrics Unit by specially trained nursing staff and medical specialists. Your gynaecologist will visit you daily and the nursing staff will help you to become familiar with your new baby's needs and show you have best to care for him or her.
