Emergency centre frequently asked questions
Mediclinic understands that a visit to our Emergency Centre may be an emotional experience, as you or a loved one requires urgent medical care. To ensure that each patient receives the most appropriate care at the most appropriate time, Mediclinic applies strict triage criteria to assess and prioritise care for those in the Emergency Centre.
How do I know what Specialist Doctor I need to see?
We recommend first seeing your local GP (General Practitioner) who will then be able to give appropriate guidance as well as refer you to the correct Specialist Doctor.
How do I know if my Medical Aid will cover my hospital visit?
Please familiarise yourself with your medical scheme's/insurer's benefits and available funds before admission. If necessary please contact your medical aid/insurer directly to confirm.
Why should I not eat or drink before my theatre procedure?
Rules about when to stop eating and drinking are created to keep patients safe! It is very important for every patient to have an empty stomach before any surgery or procedure that requires anesthesia, for two reasons: To prevent nausea and to keep any food or liquid from getting into the lungs.
When will I be allowed to have visitors?
Mediclinic has flexible visiting hours (09:00 - 20:00), with a resting period between 13:00-15:00, however, there may be times when visitors cannot be accommodated. Visitors may be asked to leave the bedside when procedures are carried out in the unit; we appreciate your understanding in this regard
Is there free WiFi in Mediclinic hospitals?
Yes, there is! Connect to the “MCGUEST” (or guest) Wi-Fi, type in your cellphone number to register, and you’ll be sent an OTP via SMS, which will serve as your password.
