Healthy Life

It doesn’t matter how hard you train or far you run, there’s no escaping the effects of an unhealthy diet.

Gayle Landau, a registered dietician at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Parktown, says a balanced and varied diet is important to support your body to build and repair muscle. An unhealthy diet, on the other hand, can lead to muscle injury, poor performance and dehydration, she explains.

“For the average, healthy person, the best advice is to enjoy a balanced and varied diet,” she says. “Individuals who are serious about sports or training for endurance events should consult a registered dietician with a special interest in sports nutrition,” says Landau.
