Mediclinic has implemented some innovative technology measures to ensure that our doctors and hospitals can safely receive patients requiring care.

These include the use of thermal cameras and applications on cell phones allowing healthcare workers and patients for surgery to complete their COVID-19 screening questions before entering a facility. This also now applies to visitors wanting to see relatives or friends currently admitted to our hospitals. Or patients coming for consultations with their doctors or for diagnostics procedures in either the radiology or laboratory departments.

To ensure the best possible journey through our hospitals, Mediclinic has implemented a WhatsApp Bot using the WhatsApp platform – which allows you to complete your screening before you visit one of our facilities – streamlining your passage through access control.

By simply messaging “Hi” and following the cues on the WhatsApp Bot (+27 87 240 6497), you are prompted to complete the necessary questions and are provided with a proof of completion that is valid for a 24-hour period.

This means that a doctor’s appointment can be smooth sailing, as the survey is completed in the comfort of your own home, before proceeding to the doctor’s rooms. Relatives of patients can also apply this app, making the time with your family member that much easier.

Once you have received a green clearance message and shown that to the individual manning the access control point, your temperature will be taken and access provided. It is however important to note that anyone not passing the questions with the necessary health clearances will be given a blue (requires the doctors rooms to be contacted before access is provided) or a red response (where individual is requested to not enter the facility but rather be assessed by their GP for any health risks).

Symptom related questions covered by the Mediclinic WhatsApp Bot will include:

  • Cough and/or shortness of breath (new onset)
  • Sore throat
  • Sudden loss of smell and/or loss of taste
  • Fever (>38 °C) or a history of fever/chills
  • Body aches and/or weakness
  • Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhoea
  • Have you been in close contact with someone with a flu-like illness or COVID-19?

Don’t forget to add this useful number to your phone, to streamline your next visit!
