Additional visiting restrictions and considerations for protection of patients NOT at risk of COVID-19 in the following areas, assuming the majority of these patients are well and are now entering a high risk area:

This follows initial screening at the entrance of the hospital as per policy

Labour and Maternity

  • Only the partner may be allowed access to the unit
  • Partner may stay as per usual practise in certain hospitals, but may not walk around the hospital
  • All non-essential activities to be stopped. This includes, but is not limited to:

        •  birth photographers,

        •  doulas,

        •  breastfeeding consultants,

        •  audiologist doing routine hearing tests at birth

  • No mask to be given to non-infected parents for their protection

Neonatal Units

  • Only one parent may enter the unit at a time
  • No additional visitors allowed
  • Staff coming on duty must stay in the unit for the duration of their shift and may not walk around the hospital
  • No staff from other wards may visit the neonatal unit
  • All non-essential activities to be stopped. This includes, but is not limited to:

        •  birth photographers,

        •  breastfeeding consultants,

        •  audiologist doing routine hearing tests at birth

  • External service providers to be evaluated as essential or non-essential, or if the consultation can be done via telephone with the treating doctor and not in the unit. This includes dieticians.
  • Physiotherapists must come to the neonatal unit first prior to making any additional rounds to CCU or other wards within the hospital and may not enter the NICU if they have been in a high risk area.
  • No mask to be given to non-infected parents for their protection

Paediatric Wards

  • Only one parent may stay with the child
  • Parent to be informed to stay in the room or at the bedside
  • Parents may not walk around the ward and congregate together
  • Parents may not leave the ward to visit the coffee shop
  • If the parent is unwell, consider nominating another family member to stay with the child. This family member must be the same person throughout the child’s hospital stay.
  • All other visitors to be stopped
  • No mask to be given to non-infected parents for their protection
