Prof Nando Ferreira is available at the Durbanville Limb Reconstruction Unit together with Dr Gadi Epstein.

The unit focuses on the comprehensive management of complex limb pathology, including:

  • Limb reconstruction: upper and lower limb deformities (paediatric and adult), leg length discrepancies, non-unions, mal-unions, and complications following fracture management.
  • Musculoskeletal infection: fracture-related infections, acute and chronic osteomyelitis, infected non-unions, and diabetic foot infections with a focus on limb salvage and reconstruction.
  • Musculoskeletal tumours: benign and malignant primary and secondary bone tumours, as well as metastatic disease involving the musculoskeletal system.
  • Post-traumatic reconstruction: management of bone loss, soft-tissue defects, and complex sequelae following high-energy trauma.
  • Bone defect management: induced membrane technique, bone transport, and biologic reconstruction using bone graft substitutes and osteoinductive materials.
  • Limb lengthening and deformity correction: internal and external fixation methods, including motorized intramedullary nails and circular fixators.
  • Functional limb salvage: multidisciplinary care integrating orthopaedic, plastic, vascular, and infectious disease expertise to restore limb function and prevent amputation.

Prof Ferreira also serves as Professor and Head: Clinical Unit for Tumour, Sepsis and Reconstruction at Stellenbosch University, where he leads a multidisciplinary team in advanced limb reconstruction and research.
