Mediclinic George is scheduled to open its new, purpose-built hospital on 1 May 2026, bringing together services from Mediclinic George and Mediclinic Geneva into a modern facility that expands access to specialised care for the growing community.
A Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory is now on-site, offering advanced diagnostic imaging and interventional treatment for heart conditions such as coronary artery disease, valve disorders, and other cardiovascular issues. This means patients in George and the wider Southern Cape will no longer need to travel further for certain specialised cardiac procedures.
Hospital General Manager Celesté Louw states that the introduction of these services represents a significant advancement for the region. “We are excited to be able to offer advanced cardiac care locally, allowing patients to receive high-quality treatment closer to home.”
Alongside the hospital, a co-located Mediclinic George Day Clinic will open, providing streamlined care for less complex procedures. The day clinic will feature three fully equipped theatres and one procedure room, including innovative recovery cubicles to improve patient comfort and privacy.
“The majority of our doctors will also operate from the day clinic,” Louw explains. “By moving less urgent procedures out of the main hospital, we can increase theatre capacity for more complex cases and improve patient flow.”
The new hospital combines modern architecture, advanced medical technology and patient-focused design inspired by the Outeniqua Mountains, prioritising patient safety, comfort and privacy while supporting collaboration among healthcare professionals. Specialists from both current hospitals will relocate to the new facility, ensuring continuity of care and familiar clinical teams.
Patients can be confident that the move will improve convenience and quality of care. The new Mediclinic George hospital represents a major investment in healthcare for the Southern Cape.
Louw concludes, “We appreciate everyone’s understanding during the construction phase and upcoming relocation, and we look forward to opening a new chapter in healthcare for George and the region.”
