Based in Sandton, the Head and Neck Services Centre was established to provide patients with a dedicated Critical Care Unit focused on the needs of patients with cancer of the head and neck. Common procedures at the centre include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, reconstruction, rehabilitation, nutrition, supportive care, radiology and pathology.
A specialised clinical team provides the full cycle of care, which includes expert guidance and support for patients throughout their treatment journey. A multidisciplinary team comprising 25 medical specialists is also at hand to support patients through the oncology journey. Specialties include swallowing and speech therapy, psycho-oncology, dietetics and palliative care.
More than 150 cases are discussed annually by the team. These case discussions facilitate appropriate investigations and management, thereby ensuring optimal outcomes for head and neck patients. Ongoing peer review promotes the highest levels of quality care.
The centre has the latest equipment and state-of-the-art facilities and enjoys outcomes that are equivalent to the leading centres in Europe, America and Australia.
