Why Choose Us

Mediclinic Bloemfontein, the biggest hospital in the Mediclinic private hospital group opened its doors in July 1990. Since its inception the hospital has been a huge success due to its carefully planned design, sophisticated equipment and facilities, its professional and dedicated staff and management and leading medical professionals.

Mediclinic Bloemfontein is well known as the preferred super speciality hospital in central South Africa. The double-storey integrated cardiac unit opened in 2000, connecting the two heart catheterisation laboratories and two heart theatres with critical care units by means of an air bridge. The full time, experienced cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons have a reputation of excellence.

Visiting Hours

Visits from family and friends are an important part of the recovery process and Mediclinic makes every effort to accommodate visitors. Flexible visiting hours apply (09:00 - 20:00), with a resting period between 13:00-15:00, but there may be times when visitors cannot be accommodated. Please enquire at the nurses’ station to confirm if a patient is able to receive visitors. Visitors may be asked to leave the bedside when procedures are carried out in the unit; we appreciate your understanding in this regard.

We ask that visitors respect other patients in the room and restrict the number of individuals visiting to three per bed in general wards, two per bed in critical care units and one person can accompany a patient admitted for a day procedure in the Day ward.

Silent hospitals promote healing. We ask that you put your mobile on silent while on hospital premises, keep volume to a minimum and that any accompanying children are well supervised.

Specialised nursing units

Emergency centre

The 24-hr emergency centre is manned by a skilled, professional, multidisciplinary team who are trained in life-saving techniques and supported by state of the art technology. We make use of the international triage system and each patient will be triaged and seen by the doctor accordingly.

Cardiac unit

The cardiothoracic and cardiology units, consists of a dedicated cardiothoracic theatre, a combined cardiothoracic intensive and high care unit and a coronary intensive/high care unit and two catheterisation laboratories. The cardiac team comprises cardiothoracic surgeons, anaesthetists, adult and paediatric cardiologists and medical technologists, most with consulting rooms on the hospital premises. The team is supported by professional nurses, most of whom have completed specialised courses in intensive care. The latest cardiac catheterisation equipment is available to complete both diagnostic and inventory procedures.

Obstetric & gynaecology unit

The dynamic team of obstetricians and gynaecologists performs nearly 2 000 deliveries per year. This unit is supported by the neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, where premature babies and critically ill children up to the age of 12 years receive specialised care.
