CHANGE IN BIRTH REGISTRATION PROCEDURES AT MEDICLINIC
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mediclinic is committed to providing exceptional healthcare and a comfortable experience during our patients' stay in our hospitals. As such, one of the value-added offerings for new parents has been the convenience of registering a baby's birth with the Department of Home Affairs through a third party service, while still in our care.

Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has however given notification that, as of 1 November 2011, third party representatives will no longer be able to register a newborn. This is the result of a new biometric technology introduced by the DHA which verifies the parents' fingerprints. This new procedure is a fraud prevention mechanism aimed at protecting the integrity of the National Population Register.

To facilitate the transition, the DHA has informed Mediclinic that it will assign department officials to register births at our hospitals. These visits have not been scheduled, but we will be providing support and assistance to ensure they are regular and that there is service continuity to our patients.

Information pertaining to visits by DHA officials will be conveyed to patients by the client services manager at each hospital.
