Specialised nursing units
Cardiac unit
The cardiothoracic and cardiology units, consists of a dedicated cardiothoracic theatre, a combined cardiothoracic intensive and high care unit and a coronary intensive/high care unit and two catheterisation laboratories. The cardiac team comprises cardiothoracic surgeons, anaesthetists, adult and paediatric cardiologists and medical technologists, most with consulting rooms on the hospital premises. The team is supported by professional nurses, most of whom have completed specialised courses in intensive care. The latest cardiac catheterisation equipment is available to complete both diagnostic and inventory procedures.
Dialysis unit
Acute and chronic dialysis patients are treated on an in- or out-patient basis in the dialysis unit. Acute patients are able to receive immediate lifesaving treatment, should it be necessary.
Emergency centre
The 24-hr emergency centre is constantly manned by a professional, multidisciplinary team who are trained in life-saving techniques and supported by state of the art technology. Seriously-ill patients will be treated immediately.
Obstetric & gynaecology unit
The dynamic team of obstetricians and gynaecologists performs more than 900 deliveries per year. This unit is supported by the neonatal and paediatric intensive care unit, where premature babies and critically ill children up to the age of 12 years receive specialised care.
