Mediclinic Southern Africa has launched a detailed internal investigation at Mediclinic Highveld following the arrest of an employee in connection with the alleged sale of human placenta.
The case, which is being investigated by the organised crime unit of the SAPS in the Highveld area, has also led to the arrest of a previously contracted security guard, and Mediclinic will provide its full support in further investigations.
Mediclinic has stringent processes and procedures in place regarding the incineration of medical waste and continuous control measures are followed to ensure these are applied. Employees are further contractually bound to follow these procedures and any proven transgressions, especially in relation to criminal activity, will lead to immediate suspension and disciplinary action.
