Emergency centre

The 24-hr emergency centre is constantly manned by a professional, multidisciplinary team who are trained in life-saving techniques and supported by state of the art technology. Seriously-ill patients will be treated immediately.

Obstetrics unit

Mediclinic Cape Town takes pride in being the only private hospital in the Cape Town city bowl with a WHO-accredited Baby Friendly obstetrics unit, where early bonding through breastfeeding and kangaroo nurturing for premature babies are encouraged. Highly-qualified midwives assist during birth and the various methods of pain control, including epidurals, are discussed beforehand. The unit offers semiprivate and private rooms, the latter subject to availability at an extra charge. Members of Mediclinic Baby will receive a complimentary spa treatment while in hospital.

Comprehensive guidance on all aspects of pregnancy, labour and babycare is provided. Ante- and postnatal classes are available and antenatal aqua classes are presented in the hospital's heated, eco-friendly indoor pool. Weekly tours of the obstetrics unit give prospective parents the opportunity to view the facilities, discuss the unit's services and meet the staff.

An Audiologist conducts hearing tests on all babies before discharge (at a small charge) and the hospital's Well Baby Clinic performs immunisations and baby milestone checks. Parents can also discuss their concerns and queries regarding their children's health and development.

Neonatal critical care unit

In the neonatal critical care unit highly-specialised and dedicated personnel play an essential role in the treatment and continuous care of premture and sick babies. The unit encourages kangaroo nurturing for premature babies, where the mother holds her baby close to her body to promote wellness and development.
