Why Choose Us

This multidisciplinary hospital offers local and international patients a broad spectrum of specialist medical services, modern facilities, high-tech equipment and outstanding nursing care.

The elegant and historic building in quiet Oranjezicht is a five-minute drive (or a fifteen minute stroll through the Company Gardens) from Cape Town's central business district, with easy access to Cape Town International Airport. Most of the elegantly appointed rooms have panoramic views of Table Bay, the City Bowl or Table Mountain

In April 2017 Mediclinic Cape Town were awarded the Kartin Kleijnhans Quality Trophy from COHSASA. Read more about this accolade here.

Visiting Hours

Visits from family and friends are an important part of the recovery process and we make every effort to accommodate visitors. Flexible visiting hours apply (09:00-20:00) but there may be times when no visitors are permitted. Please enquire at the nurses’ station if a patient is able to receive visitors.

A patient’s visitors may be asked to leave the bedside when procedures are carried out in the unit and we appreciate your understanding in this regard. We ask that visitors respect other patients in the room and restrict visitors to 3 per bed in general wards and 2 per bed in critical care units.

Specialised nursing units

Emergency centre

The 24-hour Emergency Centre is constantly manned by a professional, multidisciplinary team who are experienced in the emergency medicine and are supported by state of the art technology. We make use of the international triage system and each patient will be triaged and seen by the doctor accordingly.

Obstetrics unit

Mediclinic Cape Town is the only private hospital in the Western Cape with Baby Friendly accreditation, where early bonding through breastfeeding and Kangaroo Mother Care is encouraged. The unit offers general and private rooms with the latter subject to availability and an extra charge. All new mothers in our Maternity Ward will be treated to a complimentary manicure/pedicure.

Comprehensive guidance on all aspects of pregnancy, labour and baby care is provided. Antenatal and postnatal classes are available. Weekly tours of the obstetrics unit give prospective parents the opportunity to view the facilities, discuss the unit's services and meet the staff.

An Audiologist conducts hearing tests at a nominal charge and the hospital's Well Baby Clinic performs immunisations and baby milestone checks. Parents can also discuss their concerns and queries regarding their children's health and development.

Neonatal critical care unit

In the Neonatal Critical Care unit, highly specialised and dedicated personnel play an essential role in the treatment and continuous care of premature and sick babies. The unit encourages Kangaroo Mothercare for premature babies, where the mother holds her baby on her chest to promote wellness and development.

Orthopaedic unit

Orthopaedic surgery is performed by a dedicated group of doctors in private practice who specialise in specific orthopaedic conditions. They are supported by physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a wound care clinic and an orthotist who will ensure that the best care is offered for all aspects of orthopaedic surgery.

The orthopaedic surgical team specialises in:

The advantage of this type of surgery is that it reduces recovery time and minimises scarring. It can be used to examine almost any joint in the human body.

A dedicated group of orthopaedic doctors in private practice specialise in different joint replacement treatment and physiotherapists provide pre- and post-operative care. The hospital also has a wound care clinic to assist with postoperative wound care.

Treatment offered includes:

Scoliosis Clinic

The Cape Scoliosis Clinic, founded by Dr Attila Szabo, who has a special interest in the early detection of idiopathic scoliosis, offers expert treatment along with the team of experts, Esther Miller, a physiotherapist who specialises in physiotherapeutic-specific exercises, and Malcolm Freedman, orthotist, who implements bracing techniques.

Rehabilitation
